Installations

Art installations are a fulfilling way for me to express myself becouse I get to communicate my passion in a very visible and public way.

Resting Place
I created this resting place as a tribute to my mom who died unexpectedly and alone. This garden bed represents a place where I wish she could have been in her last moments. I used all organic materials and installed the piece at the Ridgeview Community Garden in San Diego. Friends helped me collect materials according to my design. They helped me install the piece one afternoon and we shared a meal as we talked about our mothers who have passed. I enjoyed seeing how this installation changed over time and how the materials soaked into the garden bed, along with my memories and loving expression for my mom.
Fresh flowers placed in palm frond as space for mom.
My children and I weaved grasses to cover my mom with comfort.
Work in process.
A meal with friends as part of the process. Sharing stories of our mothers who have passed.
Shells placed with intention.
Shredded paper adds dimension and comfort to the space.
Feathers collected at City Farmers Nursery fall softly through the palm fronds.
Disco balls placed in clear jars of water reflect light to dance around the space.
Almost done, and feeling so satisfied.
Coffee grounds add a richness of color and nutrients to the garden bed.
Material Awareness
In an effort to bring awareness to the many items "lost" and "found" on her children's elementray
school campus (SDCCS),  Joan Green created two pieces of art to express her concern about our
society's disconnection to their material possessions.
